Attention all right-handers!
It has been quite some time since Razer introduced the DeathAdder Chroma in late 2006. Eleven years later, its successor, the DeathAdder Elite comes into play in 2017 and is vastly improved in both technical and ergonomic aspects. Today we will be reviewing this mouse and how it stands as a gaming mouse.
At A Glance
True 16,000 DPI optical sensor
Up to 450 IPS / 50 g acceleration
Razer Mechanical Mouse switches
Ergonomic right-handed design with textured rubber side grips
Razer Chroma™ lighting with 16.8 million customizable color options
Design
My first impression on the build quality of this particular mouse was favorable as the mouse was designed with an ergonomic form factor. Although I have nothing against ambidextrous mice, such as the Razer Ouroborous or Steelseries' Sensei 310, being right hand dominant simply allows for better comfort and control when playing games or doing everyday tasks.
As for the peripherals, the Elite remains with 5.00 x 2.76 x 1.73 inches in size, and still provides textured rubber grips on the scroll, thumb, and the outermost two fingers.
The gaming optimized Razer mechanical mouse switches are crisp and responsive. These are further improved in the Eilte version which are co-designed and produced with the leading global mouse switch supplier, Omron, and have been tested for extended durability up to 50 million clicks.
Additionally the Elite offers 7 buttons in total, in contrast to the Deathadder Chroma which only had 5 buttons. The two new buttons are located under the scroll wheel, which by default, are used for sensitivity stages.
Software
The DeathAdder Elite uses Razer Synapse 2.0 software. This platform is used by many of Razer's products in fact most as Synapse 3.0 is currently in its Beta form. The program allows you to create profiles, dedicate keys, sensitivity levels, lighting and calibration to suit individual styles.
The performance tab offers sensitivity (up to 16,000 dots-per-inch), acceleration, and polling rate (up to 1000Hz) for the mouse, which is more than enough for regular use, thus why this mouse is suited for gamers when considering its capabilities.
The lighting tab includes 4 effects: Static, breathing, reactive, and spectrum cycling - my personal favorite. The transition between RGB mice can sometimes be an issue, but this mouse handles every color smoothly and had no difficulties in contrast and is a highly attractive mouse especially when accompanied in a dim room. Nevertheless its brightness can also be manually adjusted to suit its environment.
The calibration tracks your usage from in-game clicks to mouse movements between the mouse and your mouse pad. Although Synapse already has Razer mats loaded into the program, you are still able add mats from other brands and calibrate them within seconds.
Verdict
Yes absolutely!
Although this mouse is labelled as an eSports gaming mouse, it is super comfortable for those that simply want a quality mouse to use. That being said, competitive users can expect precision when gaming and may adjust their preferences in a simple, yet effective Synapse interface. Complimented by its aesthetic curves and lighting effects, the DeathAdder Elite lives up to its name.
Considering its significant build quality versus its price, I highly recommend this product for those seeking to perform with style. Make sure to use my affiliate link to get the best price on Amazon!
